All foods as they are digested or burned leave a residue of ash in the body. This ash can be neutral or alkaline, depending on the mineral composition of the food. Acid ash (acidosis) results when there is a decrease of alkalis in the ash. In curing diseases, the higher the proportion of alkaline food in the diet, the faster the recovery will be. Alkali neutralises acids. All the minerals that form the all the minerals that form the red cells and the plasma of the blood, are alkaline, excepting the chlorine that is acid. There are other important fluids in the body that are alkaline; Some of these are saliva, bile, tears, lymphatic fluid, joint lubricants, muscle lubricants, colon secretions and pancreatic juice. None of the alkaline juices are body waste, even if bile contains debris. Some acidic body fluids are: urine, sweat, fluids issued during respiration, fatigue wastes and gastric juice. All these fluids are body wastes except gastric juice, which is used for digestion.
High alkaline foods for acid reflux
It is important to realize that body fluids that contribute to life processes are all alkaline except gastric juice and that waste or waste fluids are all acidic. Acidic products should be eliminated because the state of the body is a state of alkalinity. If the body fluids become acidic to the smallest degree, serious illnesses can occur and can even lead to death.
The degree of acidity or alkalinity of a substance is expressed in pH value. The “p” indicates the power while the “H” is for the hydrogen ions, which is the name that the chemicals give the particular element that forms the acid. The scale ranges from 0 (acid) to 14 (alkaline), being neutral 7, neither acid, nor alkaline.
The blood is slightly alkaline, just above the neutral point, with a pH of 7.35. If the pH of a person’s blood rises more than 7.8 or decreases below 7.22 an immediate death occurs. A condition known as acidosis occurs when the pH of the blood falls below 7.35. If the pH of the blood rises above 7.35, the alkali will exist and it will increase more severely, until death occurs when the pH reaches 7.8. This provides a variable range of only 0.6 degrees. Diseases occur any time the blood has a normal pH of 7.35.
The more acid the fluids and tissues of the body, the more they are subject to the growth of bacteria and germs and the less able to fight them.
It is now widely known that acid-forming foods increase the expulsion of calcium and phosphorus from the body (causing osteoporosis) and that alkali-forming foods help to retain these mineral salts in the body. Kidney stones are sometimes concentrations of uric acid crystals that are more prone to form when urine is too acidic. More alkaline urine tends to dissolve them. A burning sensation may develop when the urine becomes very acidic. By taking large amounts of distilled water one can lighten the process of removing acids through the pores and kidneys. The pH of the urine can be changed in a few hours.
The skin has approximately 1,500,000 sweat glands sweating acids. The lungs expel acidic carbon dioxide, which is expelled as carbon dioxide and water. The burning of food and oxygen in the cells of the body produce this gas, which is carried by the lymphatic fluid and the blood to the lungs to be exhaled.
There are a greater number of life processes that are aided more by alkaline fluids than by acids. Both are necessary. The alkali is being continuously consumed and the supply reduced. Since they are continually being consumed, there is a danger that supply will be exhausted. It is very clear then, that if the foods have to influence the alkalinity and the acidity of the body we must eat abundantly of that which will keep the alkalinity of the blood high and eat measurably those foods that increase acidity. The ideal combination, according to Dr. Roger Berg, the world’s top authority on the ratio of the acid-alkaline percentage in the diet, is about 80% of food producing alkalis and 20% of food producing acids. The correct pH balance of our blood can be preserved by carefully choosing the foods you eat. Another factor influencing the right balance is the ability of the kidneys, skin pores, and lungs to remove acids. It is important for these bodies to work properly.
The harmful acids we should avoid are: ascetic acid, found in vinegars, tannic acid, found in coffee, cocoa tea or chocolate; and benzoic acids found in food preservatives.
Foods that by themselves is acidic like citrus, when digested and assimilated by the body leave an alkaline residue while the alkaline foods leave acid residues. We therefore refer to food forming acids or alkalis.
Studies have confirmed that rest, exercise, fresh air, laughter and love are alkalising of the body; selfishness, anger, worries and hatred are acidifying the body.
